Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose in-home euthanasia?

Choosing in-home euthanasia lets your pet stay comfortable at home, surrounded by loved ones. It’s a gentle, private way to say goodbye, honoring your special bond and making their last moments peaceful.

How do I know when it’s time to consider euthanasia for my pet?

Deciding when to consider euthanasia for your pet is never easy, and the process is deeply personal. If you find yourself wondering about your pet’s comfort or quality of life, we encourage you to connect with our experienced veterinarian for guidance.

By scheduling a Virtual Quality of Life Assessment, we can review your pet’s situation and discuss your specific concerns in a supportive and compassionate manner. We are here to help you navigate this decision, answer your questions, and provide specialized guidance, ensuring your pet’s well-being remains at the center of every conversation

If you are uncertain and would like to speak to a specialized veterinarian about your pet’s condition, please schedule a Virtual Quality of Life Assessment consultation today.

How soon can we schedule for in-home euthanasia services?

We aim to offer same-day appointments when possible, though requests after regular hours (after 4pm or on weekends/holidays) will incur a $100 fee. In the event of an emergency, we understand there may not be enough time and recommend seeking immediate assistance at a veterinary emergency hospital. If you feel that it is time for your pet’s peaceful passing and do not wish for it to occur at an emergency hospital, please contact us directly—we will make every effort to support you during this difficult moment.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens. We ask that any cancellations or changes be made at least two hours before your scheduled appointment. Late changes may incur a fee, as they prevent us from assisting other families in need. Thank you for your understanding—this policy helps us provide compassionate, timely care to all clients and their pets.

What happens to my pet's body?

There are several respectful options available regarding your pet’s aftercare. Should you choose cremation, we will coordinate all logistics related to your pet’s aftercare with our trusted crematorium partner, ensuring a dignified process throughout. You may select private cremation, which allows you to receive your pet’s ashes, or communal cremation, where ashes are not returned and are respectfully handled by the crematorium. Our services include going over all your options so that you are well informed to make the best decision for you and your family.

Should your pet pass unexpectedly before a scheduled euthanasia visit, we are here to connect you with a crematorium directly or, if we are already on our way, assist with transport to ensure your pet receives gentle, dignified aftercare.

What is the cost of in-home pet euthanasia?

Pricing for in-home euthanasia services costs more than having the procedure done at your regular vet. The cost of a mobile practice includes travel to your home, which can be time-consuming due to traffic, but also our dedication to offering unhurried, attentive support for you and your pet. Each visit is shaped by the unique needs of your family, and our priority is to ensure we provide the utmost care and comfort throughout this sensitive process.

The cost varies depending on the desired services and your pet’s size, but you can see the exact cost of your needs by clicking on our Services Menu.

What kind of payment do you accept?

Gathering details about your pet, location and your aftercare preferences help us ensure transparency and support every step of the way. The total cost will be clearly communicated in advance so you can make informed decisions. We kindly request that payment is arranged prior to your visit, allowing you to focus on being present with your beloved pet. We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards and other flexible payment options such as Zelle. We do not offer CareCredit at this time.

Can I feed my pet before the appointment?

Certainly, and from our experience, chocolate ice cream is a favorite!

As this is an end-of-life appointment, we understand the desire to offer joy to your pet during their final moments. While it is completely appropriate to provide favorite foods or treats, we advise moderation and given at the time of the appointment to minimize any potential adverse effects during the sedation process.

What should I expect when my pet passes away?

When a cherished companion reaches the end of their life, the process of saying goodbye is understandably emotional and profound. There may be involuntary muscular responses such as slight movements or bodily eliminations. Rest assured, this is a normal part of the natural process, and we will assist in making things as dignified as possible. We come prepared to help manage these potential responses, and we will walk you through what to expect during the appointment.

How will my pet be transported after the euthanasia procedure?

Following the appointment, we will gently transport your pet using certain carriers, depending on their size. For pets under 30 pounds, we will respectfully carry them ourselves on a soft bed. If your pet weighs more than 30 pounds, we may kindly request the assistance of an able-bodied adult to help with carrying to our vehicle. This process can serve as a meaningful final walk with your pet and may offer comfort and closure for many families. For pets over 120 pounds, we will need advance notice in order to arrange for assistance.

How should I prepare for an in-home visit?

Please keep in mind that we are solely focused on supporting you and your cherished pet during this time. As such, do not feel like you need to offer refreshments or clean up before we arrive. We are not there to judge and are only there to provide gentle guidance and support.

We recommend selecting a space where your beloved pet feels most comfortable and at ease. Having familiar blankets, favorite toys, or treats nearby can offer additional comfort during these meaningful final moments together.

May I remain with my pet during the euthanasia process?

Absolutely. We encourage you to remain present with your pet throughout the procedure, for as long as you feel comfortable. We are committed to providing support at every stage, ensuring both you and your pet are as at ease as possible.

During the sedation process, we prefer to remain with your pet to carefully monitor their response and adjust care as needed. Our priority is to ensure their comfort and your peace of mind throughout each step. Should you wish for privacy once sedation is complete, know that we will respectfully step out, allowing you precious moments alone together.

Are children able to be present?

Yes. Including older children in the farewell can be meaningful, while younger children may require additional support. We encourage families to make decisions based on each child’s emotional readiness and individual needs.

Can other pets be present?

Certainly. Other household pets are welcome to be present during the visit, as this can often help them process and understand the loss of their companion. However, should any pet appear anxious or distressed, it may be best to gently relocate them to a quieter space for their comfort.
